Next Stop Abu Dhabi

I will be arriving at Abu Dhabi airport from the U.S. in about a month to start my new job. I am concerned as to what to carry on board and what to pack for check-in. Other than the obvious (contrband, etc.), are there certain items that are restricted or banned in the UAE that a naive Westerner would not think about as a first time traveler? Are laptops and other media scrutenized? I have a lot of training materials I'd like to bring (DVD's, etc.) Good idea, or not?
