Moving to Malta

Let me begin by saying my knowledge of Malta is very limited. I visited for a week 2 years ago and fell in love with her. I am a single 65 year old single male and I live in Sweden. I am a US and Swedish citzen and I am ready to relocate to somewhere a bit warmer. I am living on a fixed income of $1,700 and would like to rent an apartment for a year to see if I can adjust to life on Malta.

As a citizen of an EU country I guess the move from Sweden to Malta would be fairly easy. I will sell my house and belongings here in Sweden and arrive with a couple of suitcases. One of the things I really like about Malta is the public transport system. I do not want to drive. The best place for me to live would most likely be Valletta, but the cost of an apartment there is expensive. I think my next choice would be the three cities area. Any information you wish to share about this area would be great. I thank you in advance for your time. I would prefer a quiet area, near bus stop and market. I would like access to internet and multichannel TV. Utilities should be included in the rent or a realistic estimate of utilities should be provided. I think there is a hospital near 3 cities. Is that right? If not what is a good area with easy access to a hospital.

I know there are many other areas with access to many buses. Msida, Mdina, Balzan and Birkirkara come to mind. Are there inexpensive apartments in any of these locations. I love to cook and shop at local "farmer's markets", the outdoor type.

I like small neighborhood festivals, the kind with locally made wine and beer, music homemade food and fun. Love to people watch and enjoy a day at the beach now and then.

I will stop here until I get a response or two then try to learn more details about Malta as a place to live. Again I would like to thank you for taking the time to respond. Lee
