Parent's Review of Tenby International School, Setia Eco Park in Shah Alam, Malaysia

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Tenby International School, Setia Eco Park

In what town or city is this school located?

Shah Alam

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

British National Curriculum

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Nursery - Y11

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

The COO once told the parents that he had his staff stand outside and count the number of cars that enter the school everyday...the average was 626 cars. School buses are available but there are no safety measures in there (seat belts) so I think that's why most parents make the effort to do the school run themselves. The parents and drivers they employ generally have no regard for anyone else leave alone children and the traffic in and out of the school is an absolute nightmare as no one ever listens.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Extra-curricular (CCA) activities are available but run very badly. The number of decently run activities are those that have external coaches ( basketball, teak kwan to name a few). Most of the others are run very badly. I know of many parents who have withdrawn their children from CCA's and the school hasn't bothered to even enquire why.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The school does nothing to help children adopt from one curriculum to the other. The 95% of the teaching staff are unqualified so with unqualified teachers come the complete lack of knowledge and experience. This school is probably a "last option" for any parent who would even want to consider any International School.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There is NO Parent Association. Parents are viewed as "nuisance", "trouble makers" or "pressure group" by the senior management of the school, take your pick. Don't bother wasting time, breath, energy and most importantly your hard earned money on the school.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Be prepared for unqualified teachers, rude principal, made to buy books that will never be used, inadequate teaching happening in class and spending a mini fortune on "tuition" as this is the norm of parents in the school. If you still want to "consider" the school after knowing all this... Good luck to you!
