Expat Advice: Having a Baby in Doha

Old Souq in Doha, Qatar
An expat mom shares her experiences giving birth at Al Ahli hospital in Doha. The hospital was like a nice hotel. She had a private room and great nurses. If she were do it over again, she would have brought more baby supplies from home since they were very expensive in Doha.
What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

2009
Describe your experience giving birth there. What type of facility did you go to? What (if any) type of pain management did you use? How long did you stay in the hospital? Was it a positive experience? Etc...
Al Ahli hospital. It was amazing. I was in for 3 days. My Dr was Dr. Daniz Ihsan. She monitored my entire pregnancy and the birth. When I went to deliver (with the eipdural), my daughters heart was slowing and she sat with me 100% of the time watching. Al Ahli is like a hotel (complete with bell boys). it was great. Private room, great nurses and everything. Expensive but insurance paid almost 80%
Expat Health Insurance
How did you choose your doctor, midwife or other type of medical professional?
By accident when I found out I was pregnant
If you were to have another child in this country, would you do anything differently in terms of preparation and/or the delivery?
Not at all. Although I think I would do a much better shopping trip back in the US to get as much as I can. Baby stuff is very expensive here.
If a friend of yours living in the same country were expecting, what advice would you give her?
I've heard positive and negative things about Hamad. But, I think that if you have a great doctor, regardless where you go, you are fine.
