Parent's Review of Seoul Foreign School in Seoul, Korea

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Seoul Foreign School

In what town or city is this school located?

Seoul

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

American

What grade levels are represented at this school?

kindergarden to high school

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Vast majority by school bus

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The building is old but facilities are good. A good range of after school activities but no after school transport is provided for the elementary/primary children transport is problematic.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

A counsellor is available but no specific programs offered. The educational system and language and spelling is entirely American with little appreciation or acknowlegement provided that other ways exist. Sorry, Korean culture and language also provided.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

The school is very religious and that dominates many activities.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

There are currently two campuses on the SFS - the British sytem and the American system. Both are very different and both have good points. I find for my child that many of the Korean kids don't mix with foreigners (non-koreans) after school which is an important consideration for those keen on socialisation for their children.
