An Expat Talks about What is Was Like Having a Baby in Kuwait City, Kuwait
What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?
Kuwait City
How recently did you give birth in the country that you are reporting on?
16 January 2010
Describe your experience giving birth there. What type of facility did you go to? What (if any) type of pain management did you use? How long did you stay in the hospital? Was it a positive experience? Etc...
I went to a private maternity hospital (Royale Hayat). They are covered by my insurance plan, too. It was an amazing experience. I wanted pain free labor and it pretty much was. I discussed my birth plan with my doctor in advance. He was very supportive and made me feel at ease. The anaesthesiologist and the rest of the staff were kind and helpful. And the rooms were 5 star, definitely!

How did you choose your doctor, midwife or other type of medical professional?
I chose him randomly, of the hospital list. (Dr. Essam Sakr) I went to him for a few months before my delivery and I felt confident!
If you were to have another child in this country, would you do anything differently in terms of preparation and/or the delivery?
I would probably pay for a few extra days in the hospital. I was there for 2 nights only, but psychologically and considering that me and my husband don't have any family here - I think I could have done with a few more days in the hospital.
Other than that, I wouldn't change anything at all.
If a friend of yours living in the same country were expecting a baby, what advice would you give her?
I would recommend as above. It was a really positive experience!
