Benidorm stands apart from the quieter Costa Blanca towns nearby—it's Spain's most audacious beach resort, a vertical city of high-rises and neon energy rather than whitewashed villages. The skyline bristles with apartment towers and hotels that transformed a fishing village into Europe's answer to Miami Beach. Three kilometers of sandy beaches anchor the town, divided by a rocky headland into the Playa de Levante and Playa de Poniente, both lined with sun loungers and parasol vendors from dawn until dusk. The old town clings to the hillside above, a tangle of narrow streets and tapas bars where locals still gather, though tourism dominates the economy and the calendar. Benidorm's appeal lies in its unapologetic excess—theme parks, nightclubs, water sports, and restaurants serving every cuisine imaginable. The seafront promenade pulses with activity, from families building sandcastles to couples strolling at sunset. Winter brings northern Europeans seeking warmth; summer floods the beaches with Spanish families and international tourists. The town has reinvented itself repeatedly, shedding its 1960s package-tour reputation to attract a younger, more diverse crowd while retaining its core identity as a place where hedonism and relaxation coexist without pretense.
