Chigasaki
Suburban Coastal Beaches RiverfrontChigasaki sits on Kanagawa Prefecture's southern coast, where the Sagami Bay opens to the Pacific. The city is known for its long sandy beaches that draw surfers year-round, particularly to breaks near the Chigasaki Pier. Inland, residential neighborhoods blend seamlessly with small commercial districts, while the waterfront remains the city's defining feature—a place where locals walk at dusk and families gather on weekends. The Chigasaki Chuo Park offers green space and views across the bay toward the Izu Peninsula. The city functions as both a beach destination and a commuter town, with rail connections to Tokyo and Yokohama making it accessible for those working in the metropolitan area. Fishing remains part of the local economy, and fresh seafood appears regularly in local restaurants. The atmosphere is relaxed compared to urban centers, yet the infrastructure and services reflect its proximity to Japan's largest metropolitan region. Summer brings festival season and increased beach activity, while autumn and winter offer quieter conditions and clearer skies.
