Hello, We are arriving to Mendoza, Argentina to stay for an extended time and wonder how safe it is.

I think Searching4Peace makes a lot of profound statements that I, having lived in Mendoza for 5-years, totally agree.

I would add in many countries as the economy tanks the Argentines become more desperate and the crime rate climbs.

One thing is for sure, don't buy, rent first for 6 - 12 months. If you then are still in love with the Argentines, its economy and people, then buy.

Searching4Peace is absolutely right about the Argentines taking advantage of you. If you speak Spanish it helps, if you have a local Argentine speak for you, like when dealing with a Real estate Agent, you will definitely get a better rent or purchase price.

Not so sure about "Bangkok" for safety but I throughly enjoyed 6-weeks in Chang Mai.

Btw,...have you folks considered Bangkok, Thailand,...as a safe,..."no-worries" expat retirement location option?
