Move and Residency/citizenship questions

1. got a question about fees. I am planning on starting my residency this July/August time frame. I can do a mercosur residency because my wife is a peruvian citizen. I was quoted $2400 for the two of us, and wondering if it makes more sense to do just the rentista for me cost wise. I was also told citizenship would run $4000 each to be represented. IF this is a fair price, I will deal with it, but if someone has a good referral for a fair attorney that would be great.

2. I plan on staying there for at least 3-4 months my first visit, to travel and find where we want to live. I will want to purchase a home/apartment so referrals of Realtors or their equivalent would be great! Current plans to visit are Mar Del Plata, Bariloch, Palermo, La Plata, Rosario and Cordoba so any feedback on these would be amazing. (I see homes online, but I assume locally I will find better bargains?)

3. how easy is it to bus to different cities/states? Do Realtors typically drive you around to see places like in the US?

3. how common is Crypto used in the country?

4. I plan on being out of the country for a few months out of the year. Any thoughts on using home for air bnb during that time frame, and are there companies that manage them there?

5. How easy is it to do banking there?

Hello Trentgh7. In order to give helpful advice you need to provide a bit more demographic information. Approximate age, are there children, do you have established work in Argentina or are you going to be retired or hope to find work in Argentina, have you visited Argentina previously for at least a month,, what is your fluency with the Spanish language, etc.? . I assume you are now a US citizen living in the USA. What are the major reasons you want to move to Argentina. If you are only going to be there for a portion of each year, why do you want residency? How is your health? Economically Argentina is presently in dire circumstances. While wages are low, consumer prices are going up, and property prices are not realistic. Do what you stated, and make a 3 - 4 month visit, and you'll be able to get all your answers while you are in the country and observe first hand the conditions. I continue to visit 5 - 6 times a year for 7 -10 days each visit, mainly to stay close to friends and contacts. Even though I do have residency (through a convivencia that took about 2 years and $1500 to secure), at the present time I would NEVER consider moving permanently to anywhere in Argentina. I have traveled to all 25 provinces (including CABA and Uruguay) and while there are many wonderful sights to see, and events to enjoy, I always relish my return to the USA where in spite of the political and social divides, there is still more oppotunity and sanity and security of property and resources.

Hello trentgh7,
Re query 3 :
Argentina is well connected by buses, which are clean, modern, comfortable;and they depart frequently.

Trains are a good option,for example: B-A/Mar del Plata.Viedma/Bariloche.B-A/Bahia Blanca.B-A/Tucuman(Some with dining cars,sleepers,some without.)

I was driven by a realtor to look at properties around El Bolson.Sorry,no idea about Crypto.

Elsewhere on this forum, you'll be advised to get the lie of the land,meaning--rent(preferably for a year)before buying property.
Best Wishes,
James

no children. wife and I are 50ish. :-) I can work from anywhere with wifi and will get paid dollars. My wife is from Peru and fluent. I speak a mean game of spanglish but plan on immersion course and study to become fluent. I am looking at it for #1 a second passport and #2 possible retirement options. Thanks!

thank you! glad to hear about the bus and trains. Oh I should say, I have travelled often and for times over a month in Peru so am familiar with most of the challenges posed in South America!
Thank you James!

"In spite of the political and social divides, there is still more oppotunity and sanity and security of property and resources."

Would you mind expanding on this a bit? I'm considering Argentina as a retirement destination. I travel to B.A. for work on a monthly basis (as well as Ecuador, Chile, and Brazil) and I like what I have seen in Argentina quite well.

(For all the good press Chile gets, I have been most disappointed in my trips there.)
