how do you financially survive?

I am interested in moving to Belize in the next year or so. I am planning on visiting for about a month this January. I have done the research on Americans not getting jobs, what the work requirements are, etc. So, how is everyone surviving financially? What do you do to earn a living? I would love to hear from people on how they earn money. I am not a rich person, am saving every penny I can to buy a few acres somewhere. I currently live in North Carolina and farm for a living. I am very self-sufficient, would be happy living in a yurt like structure on a few acres. Don't know what farming is like there - as in, could I make a few bucks, etc. Don't have lots of money to fall back on, don't own a "business", but can live VERY simply. Curious about how others survive.
