Update on Driving down and back to Belize

Ok this was my 9th trip down and back. I learned something new to pass on to make the trip better. This year I had to leave a few days earlier than planned. BAD IDEA!

I left on a Wednesday crossed the boarder around noon, that was great timing. We got to Villahermosa well before dark. The problem was the next day. From Cordoba to Puebula you have to climb the mountains up to about 11,000 feet. The Semi Truck traffic was very heavy. I have never seen that when I passed thru on the weekends. It was a stand still, and took over five hours to go up the 20 miles or so. Then the next day from San Juan Del Rio to Queteareo the Semi Trucks were very heavy again slowing us down and making thing very tense. That was not as bad is only cost us about 120 miles that day. We normally make it to San Louis Potosi and had to stop in Queteareo.

The good News is that we stayed at a ONE HOTEL just before the by pass around Queteareo. Very nice I would tell anyone to stay there. And the staff spoke english.

Now this could happen on the way down now that I think about it. But up by Monterry to San Louis Potosi. So my recommendation would be to cross the US boarder on Friday and get your paperwork done. Then head south first thing Saturday morning. And going North I would cross the Belize boarder before noon on Friday or Saturday. This puts you to the mountains on Sat or Sun.

Again if anyone needs info about driving down just e-mail me. I will be updating the directions to a form more readable once I get a chance. [email protected]
