My wife and I will be traveling to Belize in September for vacation and retirement planning. Although we will be primarily visiting Abergris, we plan to make a visit to Corozal as well. We are open to and looking for any recommendations regarding our travel, ways to get the best look at the country to determine if it's the answer to our dreams, and possibly an expat group or tour guide to get into the "pineapple pipeline". Thanks in advance for any help or advice. Cheers,
Eric

I would not reccomend ambergris as it has become noisy, crowded and expensive.
In general Belize is not a top retirement destination and has never been in the IL top ten due to poor infrastructure, primitive health care and commodity-amenity deficiency. My preference is for Corozal though as it is affordable and close to the Mexican border and that serves to rectify these issues somewhat. It is also very safe.

We traveled to Belize several times, visiting Corozal, San Ignacio, Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker before purchasing on Ambergris. That being, three years ago, we have enjoyed the island, our grown children have REALLY enjoyed the island over the last few years. We have rented it when not there, so we have been pleased overall with everything. However, now we have officially retired, we wanted a more calm, less touristy area. We visited Placencia for the first time last spring and absolutely love it. The beaches are beautiful and much less crowed. Investing in Ambergris was probably a good choice, but not a fit for us long term. Because each district is so different, I would definitely recommend a visit to each before settling down. We loved the proximity to Mexico from Corozal area, but like the beaches and village atmosphere in Placencia better. Good Luck with your search!

Thanks for the response and info. I had the same thoughts when honing in on Corozal, with the hopes that the proximity to Chetumal would alleviate some issues.
Cheers,
Eric

If you really want the Pineapples come August to October then all down he hummingbird will be families selling beautiful Pineapples, from makeshift stalls, or just at the side of the sleeping policemen, well you have to slow down anyway. seems a traditional money maker, grown on any bit of good soil they have.

Be very careful Terrific.. Don't get Bobbyveeeee mad at you by talking about pineapples in his country. It is only coconuts in his country. Oh wait a minute, he does not live in Belize anymore! AND make sure we don't do a typo and leave the M out of Ambergris, that will get you scolded too! Rule number one here is bv is always right and he does own the site.
