Hi, just needing clarification, we are spending two months in Belize and bring our dogs by plane. I've a lot of info on bring dogs into Belize but I haven't seen much on returning with dogs to the USA. Does anyone do it on a regular basis that can shed some guidance?

Just have your international vet papers. I have done it nine or ten times. But I was driving thru Mexico. Mexico wanted the papers to be less than ten days old. The US never even asked for them

We just get an International Pet certificate from the US (available from most vets), then get the vet here to do the same on return to the US. Never have had any issues - need rabies current w paperwork and then get the certificate within the amount of days allowed (usually 10 days from inspection of pet to when you enter INTO the US).

Belize offers a "pet passport" which is valid for a year, so if coming and going back and forth from US to here, get one of those to avoid the BAHA paperwork each time.

If you have not filled out the BAHA paperwork and don't have that when entering Belize, you will have trouble, so contact BAHA office and get that back to them BEFORE you arrive at BZE.

I have looked on the forum for "Pet Passport" information. I also did google searches for it. Does anyone have a link or a reference to a web site I could read more about how to get this passport for my dog?
Thank you so much.

PIPER: It's actually pretty simple to get the "Pet Passport".

1) When you bring the pet into Belize, you will need international health certificate from your vet in US or Canada.

2) Fill out the paperwork from BAHA (Belize Animal Health) and have that along with international certificate and the rabies tag and certificate (these are now valid for 3 years in BZ, just like in US - formerly Belize made you get a rabies vaccine every year).

3) Once here in BZ, go to a BAHA Office and fill out app for a "Pet Passport" (take all papers above with you). They will issue a "Pet Passport" valid for one year (I believe ours was $50 USD). This allows you to bring pet into BZ without filling out the BAHA papers each time, so it streamlines the process and phone calls / emails to BAHA

Not worth it unless you go back and forth from US or Canada to BZ a few times a year as we do.

Hope that helps
