Thanks in advance for the help

There are plenty of ex military personel in Belize from many nations are you looking for all military or specifically US. I ask as my family are ex Brittish military ( husband full service to retirement myself and my son both much shorter service) and we have a place in the Belmopan area. I think the archives of this forum might show similar past questions about this subject.

I live in Placencia, and there are quite a few ex- military ( US) on the Peninsula. There isn’t and “ group gettogethers). Sometimes it comes up in conversation.
As with most of us combat vets, we rarely bring it up.

I live on the Placencia peninsula, and have met a few US veterans. There are no “ get-together” between them. As with most of us combat vets, we don’t bring it up much.
As far as living here with military background, it is a blessing and curse. Awareness and security always in back of my head. The rest of the time, retired and enjoying the life here.
Good luck

$2,500 US per month is enough to live comfortably in Belize, especially if you adapt your tastes to local products. (Imported wine is expensive comparatively, local rum isnt, etc)
Ambergris Caye is the most expensive area in Belize.
There are plenty of ex military in Ambergris, Cayo and even Belize City.
There is an active Royal British Legion Branch in Ladyville, that meets in the British / Belizean Army Base once a month on a sunday.
There is a Belize Ex Service Mens League, in Belize City that caters to local ex servicemen too.

If its like the 'super' one on northern AC its a scam, buyer beware of all these, dont believe anything until its built, so many broken 'promises' so many ripped up shirts, dont poay for anything until youy can see it and get a proper title loan, Belize is full of scams, expats on expats,

....thats good advice for everywhere. A few months back there were charges in Toronto on 17 million worth of fake deals. It involved fake mortgages that were never registered.

Thanks for the information, and the advice. Right now when I come down to retire I will be looking at renting for at least the first year, to get a feel for everything and areas. Think that is the best way to go

Hi I have heard about scams and they do exist everywhere. I hope nobody in here get scammed.

I am just an associate at my real estate brokerage in Kitchener Canada, I'm not even involved with their resort project, but I'm just trying to get the words out for my boss. Our resort is not located at AC Ambergris Caye, it is located by Corozal. It is an all inclusive resort with retirement homes- low rise and 3-4 storey condo. Featuring Marina activities, commercial properties, and restaurants.

Here's the website: http://corozobelize.com/

Check it out! And if you guys are interested please let me know.

Is this resort built and does it have a name.
If it is Going to be built using the monies advanced by interested parties it is going to be looked on as a scam due to this being the modus operandi of umpteen previous scams in Belize.

I just checked out the website and the website isnt complete.
There is just a landing page, or two.
It also says its about to start this year, so it means there is probably nothing there now.
It also seems to claim that it consists of 85 acres, but says it will be offering 800 home sites.
The smallest lot you can get permission for these days is 1/4 acre, so there is something fishy there,
If they have 85 acres the Max number of lots you could get would be 340.
I dont often agree with several of the commentators on this forum, but
any readers need to be very aware that you should buy what you see, as promises dont keep the rain off your head here.
The wording of the website portrays this development as a real thing, but the small print contradicts this.
Anyone from Corozal area heard about this one?
I havent, but am not native to the area.

Hi Con, we used to meet people on the plane coming over that said they had already, unseen put down $100k plus USD on new places on AC , some were within a mile of us and we had never heard of. Do i need to say more, theres a good 'story' from a realtor on AC who bought, north on AC, hes living on a building site and the luxury pool is a dredged swamp. BUYER BEWARE . Fools and there money are soon and easily parted, try suing anyone in Belize, only the Attorney wins.

It is the main (possibly only)piece of advise the majority of posters to this forum will agree on. Come down rent and live for 6 months to a year and explore other areas, once you have seen all the seasons and what is on offer in each region you will know if it is really the place for you. If it is not you are not saddled with trying to sell a property, Not easy selling without a loss in most parts of Belize.
