Will be in Placencia for week with one or two excursions to ruins. We have typhoid vac and wondered if the Hep A vacicne is really needed. I did a search but only found one post from 2011. Thanks in advance

There are no vaccinations needed for a Belize stay, nor malaria pills. Tap water is safe but tastes awful. If you drink untreated water there is a risk of amebic dysentery or cholera now and then.Mosquitos carry Dengue and Zika but the odds are low unless one is in overcrowded low hygiene living situations.

It must be "possible" as the vast Majority of Belize citizens manage to bring up their families on much less.
If you want to live with all the comforts you are used to in most major western countries then you will find it much more difficult. The different areas in the country of Belize will all have differing costs, the Cayes being highest costs, followed by the beach areas on the mainland, with the inland villages being the least expensive, partly due to lack of amenities taken for granted in the western world. I am assuming you were meaning $1000 US.

Decent accomodation in a nice area will cost a min. of $500. Could you like in USA for $1000 , no, well u cant here, unless ur talking about surving like a scavenging dog !!! We had our own home and spent $3500/month , but lived well

I own my little house here and spend about US$110o per month. I tracked it for about 4 months last year, including car tabs renewal and such... As for the original topic of vaccinations, I got all of mine up to date before I moved here to Cay 3 years ago, including tetanus and Hep A and B. I won't enter the debate about vaccines, but I got mine.

There are places in the region ( Oaxaca, Leon) and elsewhere in Latin America ( Cuenca, Arequippa) where you can live comfortably on 1000$. Belize is not one of them

Yes you can, i know several people who live on mainland Belize (Cayo, Corozal, or down south (not placencia) on less than US$1,000 per month. They live well but not extravagantly. Many of them manage to go boozing several times a week on this too,

The QRP asks that you can show an income of $2000 / month, gives you a guide , yes if you live in the middle of nowhere , you can live very frugally , but then you would need transport. You truly cant live well on $33/day. you can survive on it . upto you .

From what I've learned over the past few years is that many of us have vastly different definitions of "live".
Some choose or are forced by health or finances into a meager existence. Their resources are limited so their life must be fit into their financial situation.
Others more or less fortunate depending how you see "money", have many more options available to them as to where & how they choose to live.
I met folks in Belize that I have zero doubt they made more than 400Bz per year. They worked odd jobs, bartered and supported their family...without very much in the way of actual cash.
Keep in mind that just like in the US, there are inexpensive areas to live anywhere...... but do you really want to live in those locations with the danger?

Newton: NO. Why are you asking on this thread that has nothing to do with the subject?
You asked this on another thread that you started and everyone said NO (and you had asked under another name previously and everyone said NO). Asking again and again won't change the answer to the question. Unless you want to live on the mainland in a hut without electricity, the answer is always NO.
