Extending Visas

Has this happened to anyone else recently. My wife went to the Immigration office this morning in Punta Gorda town and was told by immigration officials that the GOB was no longer stamping passports and she would have to leave the country for 24 hours. My wife has been in Belize (without ever leaving the country) since December 2017. We own the land and have built a home...The local immigration official was not able to give any details.. Several people who were there to have their passports stamped, simply left...I can't say I'm shocked but I'm not aware of any public announcement from GOB on this matter.
