Moving to Cuenca

I will be moving to Cuenca in January, 2011...I currently reside in Mexico in an area with many gringos. While I'm hoping for a more "latin" experience in South America, I am on my own and will be very interested in finding friends, Ecuadorans and westerners alike. There are so many things you need to discover when moving to a new place - recommendations for a good doctor/dentist, where to get a good haircut, lawyer recommendations, good places to eat (maybe the most important question!), and, well, you get the picture. It's invaluable to have resources. Another thing I would like to discover before moving - is there a way to find out if the prescription meds I take are available in Ecuador. All the meds are available in Mexico, however, they cost a fortune. I would love to find out about getting the drugs in Ecuador, otherwise, I'm going to return home and arrange to have the drugs mailed to me from the states...is that safe?
