Cancer Hospital

My wife and I and seriously considering moving to Ecuador. I have active cancer which requires a specialist or two and tests (MRI, CT, chemo, etc.) every 4 to 6 months. Are there any hospitals in Ecuador dedicated to the cure and/or treatment of cancer? How do expats with active cancers handle that particular problem? Any information, personal or otherwise, is welcome. Thank you.

I believe there is also one of the SOLCA oncological centers here in the town of Santa Elena near Salinas.

There is medical imaging technology here on the Santa Elena Peninsula (again near Salinas) and of course in the Kennedy Norte medical district of Guayaquil.

IbixBlues, please don't eschew your normal cancer treatments for anything the lunatic fringe may offer as a replacement. They're fine as adjunctive treatment, but you risk your life trading in what your doctor advises for the snake oil they sell.

My wife's grandmother has been going to a cancer hospital in Guayaquil, so I know there is one there.

As is usual for Ecuador, Guayaquil / Quito is where the best facilities are, with Cuenca coming in second place if not equal for most things but perhaps lacking in some areas.

Although the best facilities if you are paying privately will not be cheap

I just had my second experience in the IESS hospital and I am exceedingly glad I am not seriously ill. Good Luck but to be honest I wouldn't wish your situation on anyone.
If you have SS medicare I would stay where you are and try to enjoy life and know that you are in a mess.
Seen too many die here, alone, sitting in a nice apartment, in pain, no help in site. That is the Ecuadorian way....
