My husband and I are flying out of Helena, MT to Ecuador 4/21/2021 an would like to know if personal power tools (drills, sanders, routers, ect.) are permitted to be brought in luggage into Ecuador and if there is a limit of how many

Good morning, it has been my experience that you can bring power tools in your checked bag, but if they are battery powered, the batteries need to go in your carry on. As far as limits, I would check with your airline, but probably it would be a weight limit.
Safe travels and congratulations.
What part of Ecuador are you moving to??

Unless you are really, really attached to a specific power tool, I would recommend selling the ones you have in the States and using the money and the airfare weight savings to buy new ones down here. The prices for power tools are pretty comparable and thereĀ“s a good selection to be had in the large hardware stores here.

I was mildly surprised at how reasonable it was to purchase a good power drill and bits, a skill saw, and a nail gun when I was building my casa de campo in the country, a few years ago.

We have a condo on the beach in Crucita that we bought in 2012 and now are finally able to move down. It has been our dream for the past 9 years.

Speaking about the tools, is there tariffs and or taxes to bring them in?
My husband is really handy with woodworking and we will be making kitchen cabinets, bathroom shelving, headboard for the master bedroom. He is very attached to his tools.

The only time you might run the risk of running afoul of the Aduana (Customs) is if there are lots of BRAND NEW in the packages with the price tags on 'em and they suspected you were planning to sell them here.

I'm sure your husband's well-used and much-loved tool show signs of usage and obviously, he doesn't want to part with them. I see no problem. You are allowed personal items, although there is a limit on the number of electronics ( computers, laptops, iPhones, Androids, etc. ) that you are allowed to bring in for personal use.

Heck, the last time I came back from the States, I had a brand new machete ( still in the blister pack ) in my luggage. I explained to the Customs officer that it was a gift for my brother-in-law. No problems, no hassles.
