Help with itinerary

Hi everyone, my husband and I are coming to Ecuador later this year and we hope to visit some different areas of the country to see if we may want to retire here or at least spend our cold Canadian winters here. We're in the planning stages, but here's what I have for a possible itinerary. Please critique it for me and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
We like great scenery, wildlife, a walkable city/village, going out to restaurants and shops.
The plan is to fly into Quito and spend a couple of days there. Then on to Cotacachi where we have rented a house for the month of December. We're considering staying there the month of January as well, but not sure yet. Then we'll head to the coast for a month. Possibly Manta or Manglaralto or Salinas....doing my research now. Next stop is Cuenca for a month and that would be February or March. End of Feb. our 90 days comes up, so we'd like to be in Cuenca at that time to apply for a Visa extension.
After that....not sure yet. I was thinking about Banos for a month and the last part of the month head to the Amazon and spend a few nights at one of the lodges there. From there back to Quito and home to Canada. Does this sound like a doable itinerary? It will all be buses and taxis as we will not have a car. I'm not sure how my timing is as far as weather in each place goes. I hope we don't have too much rain, but if that's the case, we'll make sure to pack for rainy weather. Looking forward to our visit to explore this beautiful country! Thanks in advance for any help!
