I lived in Quito/Cuenca 5 years up to when COVID hit....that is the baseline for my query.
So, how well has the country recovered in terms of safety and life in general using the "before times" as a point of reference? For purposes of living/tourism.
Particularly in Quito, how has the economy/safety changed between La Carolina and the Old Town (Mariscal/Guapulo/La Floresta, etc). Cuenca has always been more stable, but I'm still curious for first-hand thoughts.
Would there be any comments about traveling/touring in places that previously had been OK, but were less developed.. I was thinking about taking some friends who have not been to Ecuador before North of Quito: Mindo, Rio Intag valley, octavalo loop.....cotacachi more or less...
Specifics on specific places would be welcomed, but the real question is how the country/Sierra cities are now versus pre-covid.
