orphanage financials

I am looking to make a contribution to a non-government orphanage in Ecuador. I have contacted several and from most either get no response or no response in reply to my request for financial information. I found a couple that have more than $750,000 in the bank so are not needy, one said they would provide financial info only about what they would do with my individual donation.

Do these organizations not need funding or are they doing something illegal so as to need to hide their financial info.

I can see how they can support money laundering.
