Renting or Buying a Home in Greece

June is popular time to move to Greece. Many expats temporarily settle in furnished rentals giving them time to look for the right place to rent or buy.

Finding a good real estate agent or agency can be key! Do you have an individual or agency to recommend? Please take a minute to post the name and website for your favorite agent or agency.

If expats in your area find housing themselves -- without the help of agents, what suggestions would you have for someone starting their search? How do they find the best places?

Thanks!

Hello!

I just joined Expat Exchange and was wondering if you have real estate listings as I can't seem to find them.
I have an apartment that I am selling and would like to post a classified.

Thanks,
Helen

Where do you plan to live? Services tend to be localised. Good places are usually found through informal contacts.

Visit the location at different times of the day.

i was introduced to Samos by some Dutch friends who i met on holiday in Cyprus earlier this year, after spending some time with me and getting to know what i was about, they came to the conclusion that if i wanted to spend winter in better climate than Wales were i have holiday letting business, then Samos not Cyprus was the place for me. they have been coming to this beautiful iisland for the past 14years, and so it came to pass that they would invite me over to spend sometime with them, i guess from what was to follow to get there own back on the 12km power daily morning power walk i invited them to join me in. i arrived at Samos airport at 1950hrs on the 11th of August, it should have been 14oohrs but due to 2 aborted llanding attepts i was diverted along with 150 more passengers to Rhodes, what a start, Jaqueline the wife of Erik had travelled from Agios Constatinous to colllect me, a very relieved friend so happy to see me in one piece.we set off on the journey back re living our experiences of what had expired over the past few hours. i had planned to stay for 2 weeks to enjoy a nice relaxing holiday, they had planned otherwise, we must have climed in the 2 weeks a total of 50000feet or so so it seemed to me, but what amazing scenery and lovelly little villages we visited and some quite beautiful beaches. The day before i was due to leave i decided i needed a holiday, a relaxing holiday, so it was decided that after consulting the internet they would drive me to Pythagorion, nearer to the airport saving me a considerable ammount in taxi fares. Ifound a lovely hotel with lovely Greek people running it, i fell in love with the area almost immediatly, i told them about my plans of finding a place to live in the winter, they convinced me thatSamos and Pythagorion was the place for me, i spent another week in Pythagorion before flying home without me finding a place to rent on a long term contract, my greek friens reassured me that thet would come up with something and true to there promise they did. I travelled back for another short holiday and to view the properties they had found. I will be returning home without my clothes which the lovely Maria, my favourite girls name, the joint owner of the hotet i stayed at volluntered to wash for me thus allowing me another 20kgs of clothes, and bits and bobs to make my Samos appartment a home. I already feel at home here with the people i have met already, they have been wonderful, i am in the process of organising English sky tv and internet before i come back to stay on the 4th of November, so if there are any British or English speaking friends out there, especially someone who can speak Greek as well i would love to here from you, regards Terry.

it would be interesting to mention the above, as far as renting a property in Greece evverything is more than crystal clear,
about purchasing a property in Greece there are several things to notice, such as the value for money of the property , the construction quality, the legal frame under which you become an pwner of the land and the property. For example a laywer would help you out to avoid any problems.

i would be glad to help anyone out in questions that come up for purchasing properties in Greece. As a company expertised in property management, services and developing summer house complexes in Greece and in particular in Thassos Island in Greece, we can answer to you pretty much an question that might concern you

i remain at your disposal

My name is Constance. I've been expat in Greece for the last 7 years. You can find many estate agents in Greece, but through my experience, I can recommend 1 house hunter. Her job would be to look at all the properties from estate greek agents, make a selection for you according to your demands. You wll find her best on Facebook : House Hunter in Greece
I can also recommend one moving company called Celebrity. I heard just good things about them :www.celebrity.gr

Hope this is useful
