Moving to Athens

My story has taken years to reach this point. My Ukrainian fiance is denied entry to UK. We plan to therefore marry and find the €250,000 to gain residence in Greece. What can you tell me of life in Athens. We would intend to buy two apartments totalling €250,000 and rent one for income. All experiences are welcome . Thank you

Hi Stuart
Maybe you have contacted a Greek lawyer?
My take on your situation is this, if you are British and then a UK citizen is to get married in Greece before March 29, 2019 when UK is still fully in the EU. In fact as soon as possible. Greek lawyers tend to be really reasonable in charges compared to UK. Find one who specialises in your situation (UK citizen marrying a non-EU citizen). See what will work and wont work by doing this.

What I am hoping for is for you get your first residence permit (asap). Tell the police you need it to buy a car ...or to get married whatever. Be ready to show a rent agreement for a place you stay. Cite you need permit for something official like buying a vehicle (proof not necessary) to the police station as the reason for residence application (and because of Brexit??). Get the lawyer involved and his advice.
The reason I say this is why as an EU citizen you need to find 250,000 euros when you can buy a property without hurdles and not with such a huge sum of money).
If you plan on more than your first home to buy - watch out for taxes can be wicked for second home ownership etc. Buy as cheap as possible for your main residence.
Of course if all this does not work, or whatever then your wife to buy a residence in her name. Check if Ukraine has any special arrangement for its citizens to stay in Greece. So many work here in the hotel trade already!!!!!! Put the word out to like minded folk and get answers from as many sources as possible.
Do it as quickly as possible.. and just make sure this woman is the real deal and not some infatuation of youth of yours. Protect yourself.
Cheers
Gerald

In general, Greece has a pleasant climate, you can see https://ru.needcalc.com/weather/greece. For me, the weather and climate was an important aspect when moving. I am not comfortable in high humidity and cold. That's why I'm also looking for something average, where my health would be better.
