driving to Honduras?

In answer to the inquiry about whether plans are still on to drive-( sorry I could not figure out how to answer you personally)
Just spent a week in Roatan and had an intense course in what not to do, etc. We were advised to purchase a car in Honduras rather than bring one. Reason being that you may well not be able to get parts to repair you car- apparently it matters where the car is built, what parts are available. Makes sense to me and it's rules out the long trip.
Another reason to drive was the pet cats. I met a Canadian girl who had flown from Toronto with her cat and says it went fine. The vet records were in place and a fee paid. I had read somewhere you had to call the Honduran vet to meet you at the airport when you arrived.( at further expense) That sounds impractical and I hope it is not the case.
Anyone with experience, I am interested in your information.
