possible move to mexico?

My wife and I are considering a move to the northern Baja peninsula and we - have a million questions but here are just a couple. I have read that if you live in mexico with a FM-3 that after around 6 months, you can work legally there, is this true? What about commuting to San Diego, is this realistic? Any problems with crossing the border every day! Any help is very much appreicated!!!
