I have been asked to visit some friends in Veracruz. I don't know a lot about Veracruz, but have heard that maybe it is not so safe for foreigners. I've been all over Mexico and never had any issues. But, I know little about Veracruz. Any feedback or info would be appreciated.

'Veracruz' is a pretty broad label. The state of Veracruz is about half the size of the state of Florida - so would it be fair to ask ' what is the crime rate like in Florida south of Orlando ?

Where we live it seems that there are very specific parts of town (and the state for that matter) which seem to be prone to high crime. From time to time I read the local police page. Sometimes I pull up the place on google maps to get a better idea of where they are.

You can do the same. Most areas of Mexico have local online newspapers with 'crime' pages. Sometimes they are called 'sos', or 'policia' or 'justicia'.

Here is a link to one in Veracruz.

Perhaps your friends can help you narrow the scope of your research.

Thanks YellowTail, I should have been more specific. I am asking about the city of Veracruz. I travel in Mexico a lot, so I am generally aware of precautions and such. Just wondering if anyone was aware of specific concerns in the city of Veracruz.

I would be a lot less worried about Veracruz itself than I would be about driving to/from the city.
