I am applying for permanent residency in Mexico. While I meet the financial criteria. My live in girlfriend does not. Does anyone know if there is a way for her to qualify without required income? Not married. Not common law.

If her parents or grandparents are Mexican she can acquire Mexican citizenship through them. Otherwise, I believe there is not a work-around to keep her in Mexico. Of course she can do a border run about every six months to get a new 180 day tourist visa. Mexico is said to be cracking down on that. Many many I know are still able to do it. They just spend a week or so outside for mexico before returning.

The financial criteria for temporary residency is less than for permanent - maybe she qualifies there? Then after a few years (3 or 4?) she can convert to permanent resident.

Retiree2, This seems to be a common misconception, You can get permanent residency immediatly if you meet the income or asset requierments.

The major difference is that the temp people can drive a car from outside of MX. I think after 4 years the car has to taken out of MX.

It depends on the consulate that you apply at. I met the financial conditions for permanent but the Seattle consulate would not give it to me. They said they weren't certain I'd stay in Mexico permanently, and they didn't "like" to give out permanent status to people who didn't stay permanently, so they were giving me a temporary residency.

After 4 years I got permanent, but I had to renew my temporary after the first year (getting a 3 year temporary) and then convert to permanent after the 4th year. Extra hassle, extra fees.

Definitely it's worth trying for permanent immediately if you qualify for it financially.

I know that but he stated he 'could" apply for permenant residence in/insode Mexico not outside of Mexico al a Mexican Consulate was my point. How? Does he already have a Residente Temporal visacard to be able to do this or not?
