PART 1: VISAS & IMMIGRATION (1-20)
1. How long can I stay on tourist visa?
36 months max if you're visa-free (US, UK, EU, AU, JP etc.), 24 months if visa-required. Then you must leave.
2. What is the max for non-visa required under Long-Stay Visitor Visa Extension LSVVE?
Under LSVVE program, max stay is 36 months for non-visa required, 24 months for visa-required nationals. Conversion to other visa allowed.
3. What is first extension called?
Visa Waiver — 29 days extra to make 59 days total. Required before anything else.
4. When do I get ACR I-Card?
After 59 days. ACR I-Card is microchip ID containing your personal info, visa status. Required for bank, SIM, NBI.
5. Who needs ACR?
All who stay 60+ days, plus holders of immigrant visas 13-series, non-immigrant 9-series, special visas like SRRV, SIRV, TRV.
6. How much is extension?
Group actuals: 1st waiver ~P3,030, 2-month with ACR ~P8,000-10,000, then P1,900-4,800 per 2-months. Keep receipts.
7. Can I extend online?
Yes via BI e-Services, but ACR pickup and ECC still in-person. Davao BI at JICA Bldg, Manila at Intramuros, SM Aura, MOA.
8. Do I need onward ticket?
Airlines require it within initial 30 days. Members buy cheapest throwaway to Kota Kinabalu or Singapore ?$30 and don't use it.
9. What is ECC and when?
Emigration Clearance Certificate A or B. Required if 6+ months on tourist, or if 13A/SRRV leaving permanently. Get 3 days before flight at BI.
10. What is Annual Report?
All ACR holders must report to BI Jan 1 - Mar 1 yearly, in person, P300. Miss it = P2,000+ fine.
11. What is SRRV now in 2026?
Only Classic and Courtesy remain — Smile and Human Touch abolished September 2025. Minimum age now 40. Deposit $10k-$50k. Indefinite stay + multiple entry privilege.
12. Is SRRV deposit refundable?
Yes. In your name, earns interest. Refundable when you exit program. Annual PRA fee $360. Don't pay fixer — PRA pays agents.
13. SRRV vs 13A vs TRV?
SRRV = retirement investor, TRV = spouse of Filipino if your country NOT under EO 408 (India, Nigeria etc.), 13A = spouse of Filipino if your country IS under EO 408 (US, UK, EU, AU) + probationary 1 yr then permanent. TRV is Temporary Resident Visa.
14. What happens if I cancel 13A / spouse dies?
As of December 2025, you can self-sponsor a request to convert to remain under a WIDOWED status. In years prior, folks were downgraded to tourists.
15. Can I work on tourist/SRRV?
No. 9G work visa required, sponsored by company. Working on tourist = blacklisted.
16. What is Balikbayan?
If married to Filipina and entering TOGETHER, you get 1-year free stay stamp under Balikbayan program. If alone, only 30 days.
17. What is 13A ACR renewal?
13A itself doesn't expire like tourist, but ACR I-Card does and must be renewed/replaced.
18. Can I convert tourist to 13A inside PH?
Yes, at BI main. Need PSA marriage cert, spouse appearance, NBI clearance.

In province YES ($800-1,200 is comfortable), in BGC/Makati tight. Group says: "1,500 US dollars is very big money... Just go to province" but BGC posts say 60k-100k PHP single, 100k-200k family.
22. What is realistic BGC breakdown 2026?
From expat reels: Studio 25k-40k, 1BR 40k-70k, 2BR 70k-120k, electric 3k-8k (AC), internet 1,500-2,500, water 400, food 10k cooking 20k+ eating out, condo dues 3k-8k/month.
23. Can I open bank account on tourist?
Yes with ACR I-Card + barangay cert + proof of address. BDO, BPI, Metrobank. Tourist = savings only, no checking: "Only Savings account, foreigners can't have checking account."
24. Why is GCash important?
Foreign cards have 3-5% conversion + ATM P250 fee per withdrawal. GCash/Maya saves you thousands. Need verified GCash — requires ACR.
25. Can foreigners own land?
No. 100% prohibited. Can own condo (max 40% foreign ownership in building) or house via 50-year lease + 25-year renewal, or via corporation (60/40 Filipino).
26. What are condo dues?
Association dues P50-120 per sqm per month in Manila, plus sinking fund. Ask before buying.
27. Is buying a car easy?
Yes, but need ACR + local license. Used cars overpriced vs US. Motorbike license separate — LTO requires exam.
28. What about taxes?
If you stay 180+ days you can be tax resident. US citizens still file IRS. SRRV does NOT exempt you from PH tax on PH-sourced income. Get BIR TIN.
29. Can I bring household goods duty-free?
SRRV gives $7,000 duty-free shipment within 90 days of approval. Tourist = no.
30. How much is PhilHealth?
For foreigners ~P17,000/year now, but coverage low. Private hospitals require P50k-P200k deposit before admission. Get Pacific Cross, Axa, Cigna.
31. Health care good?
Makati Med, St. Lukes BGC, Chong Hua Cebu — world class private, but public is crowded. Davao has Davao Doctors, SPMC.
32. How to bring dog/cat?
Bureau of Animal Industry import permit + rabies titer test + USDA/DEFRA health cert + microchip. Takes 2 months.
33. Can I ship Balikbayan box?
Yes, via LBC, Atlas etc. $80-120 per box, 2-3 months sea. Don't ship prohibited items.
34. What ATM limit?
P10k-P20k per transaction, P250 fee. Use HSBC or Citibank ATM for P40k.
35. What is true cheap vs expensive?
Cheap: rent in province, tricycle, palengke, rice. Expensive: imported cheese/meat, cars, electricity (P12/kwh), internet, international schools P500k-1.5M per year per kid.
PART 3: DAILY LIFE, HOUSING, LAW (36-50)
36. Can I use foreign license?
Yes 90 days from arrival, then convert at LTO. Bring DL + passport + ACR + medical. Fee ~P800.
37. What to check when renting house?
Flood history, brownouts (ask if generator), water pressure, internet fiber available?, termites, roosters/karaoke at 7am: "Roosters wake you up", security guard, lease registration at barangay.
38. Internet speed?
Fiber in Manila/Cebu/Davao 100-500mbps P1,500-2,500. Province = DSL/satellite, 5-20mbps. Starlink now P2,700/mo + hardware P28k, very popular in group.
39. SIM registration required?
Yes since 2023 — need ACR I-Card to register SIM. Tourist SIM expires with visa.
40. Can I own business 100%?
Yes if not on Foreign Investment Negative List. Many businesses now allow 100% foreign (Retail Trade Liberalization). Still need DTI/SEC, Mayor's Permit, BIR, barangay clearance, AEP from DOLE.
41. What is barangay clearance?
Local village certificate — you need it for EVERYTHING: bank, NBI, business permit, residency.
42. What is NBI clearance?
National Bureau of Investigation clearance — required for 13A, SRRV, work permit. Get with ACR.

Group weekly warning: never send money, no "emergency hospital" scams, video call family, meet family early. "Don't tell anyone your bank balance."

Yes, if Filipino citizen. If former Filipino, limited to 1,000 sqm city / 1 hectare province.
45. Can I get dual citizenship for kids?
If one parent Filipino, child is Filipino by blood regardless of birthplace. Report birth to PSA.
