Hi there. I posted about 8 months ago about our plan to put together an LGBT focused housing situation in Uruguay. Fast forward to now, and we are just signing our lease today for a large space in Punta del Este in the Playa Mansa area.
We are preparing short term and long term rentals focusing on queer people traveling to Uruguay, digital nomads, and/or for those interested in moving here and needing a safe, lovely space to land and explore.
I arrived here in late May, and have had quite a rough time finding housing. We had initially found what we thought was a suitable space with a real estate company and an owner we thought were coming correct, and it ended up with us having to find an attorney here to begin legal proceedings against them, as well as me being attacked in the night by two armed men. This is unrelated to being gay in Uruguay, mind you, and from what I gather talking to locals, this is not a common occurrence here at all, but just a word of warning in finding longterm housing from abroad. Since being here and continuing to look for housing, it doesn’t seem to matter if you work with an agent or not - being a foreigner means sometimes higher rent, more security deposits, and on top of that the general flakiness involved in meeting up to see spaces which are accurate to their listings on websites. This is not to make sweeping generalizations, but only to share my particular experience so far.

Feel free to send a message, and we'll set up an exploratory call and send you our website to see photos, reserve a room, etc. We’re trying to keep rent to no more than $1000 a month, and short-term stays to $50 per night. We have single rooms, double rooms, an apartment-type room with kitchenette. Most rooms have private baths, pool, and a few minutes walk to the beach, public transportation, grocery stores and entertainment. High-speed fiber internet, and our house has a cook!
We speak English, French, German, Spanish (one of us is Mexican, and the others are learning Spanish).
Of course we are welcoming to anyone, but we are trying to be a resource for our community, so queer, gay, lgbt, trans folkx, radical faeries - we’re here to offer a safe, kind, fair, peaceful space for you to get to know the country, and hopefully you’ll have a better experience than my initial experience here.
