I lived for three years in Merida, working as an English teacher. While I would have liked to have lived there on a permanent basis, I could never find steady work teaching English to cover basic expenses. Institutes would never offer contracts or guaranteed hours over extended periods. Eventually, when my savings that I brought with me ran out, I was forced to return to the States. I am interested to learn from others who have tried to move to Merida, especially from those who have managed to make a career at teaching English. Thanks.
