Seeking current information on expatriate living in Caracas area

Hello,

I'm planning to stop in Caracas later this year for a few months, before continuing a motorcycle journey across all of South America - then back to Caracas indefinitely.

I'm looking for current and honest assessments of what it is like for an expatriate (I'm a US citizen) living in Venezuela. I have the benefit of living with a local citizen, but am curious about things like crime, visibility, prospects for the economy, and what life is like in general.
