How can I live in Merida longterm?

I would love to retire in Merida but I don't qualify for the Retirement Visa because of the $4,400 per month income and $73,000 deposit requirement, how can I stay longterm? Is there a loophole? I read somewhere that if I kept renewing my Tourist Visa, it would circumvent the deposit requirement. Is this is true?
