You should ensure that you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care. Secondly, you should find a good obstetrician and hospital for your prenatal care and delivery. Many expats choose to have their babies in Montevideo, the capital, which is about two hours away from Jose Ignacio, as it has more medical facilities. Thirdly, consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide additional support and guidance throughout your pregnancy and during childbirth. They can also help you navigate the healthcare system and communicate with medical staff if your Spanish is not fluent. Fourthly, it's important to understand the maternity leave laws in Uruguay. If you are working, you are entitled to 12 weeks of paid maternity leave. Fifthly, make sure to register the birth with both the local authorities and your home country's embassy or consulate to ensure your child's dual citizenship. Lastly, try to connect with other expats who have had babies in Uruguay.
