What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Larnaca?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Larnaca about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Cyprus. The country has both public and private healthcare, and both are generally of a high standard. However, private healthcare can be expensive, so ensure you have adequate health insurance. Secondly, you should register your pregnancy with a local doctor or midwife as soon as possible. They can guide you through the process and provide you with all the necessary information and support. Thirdly, consider taking prenatal classes. These can be a great way to meet other expectant parents, learn about the birthing process, and prepare for your new arrival. Fourthly, if you don't speak Greek, you might want to find a doctor or midwife who speaks your language. Communication is key during pregnancy and childbirth, and you'll want to be able to fully understand and be understood. Fifthly, make sure you understand the legal requirements for registering your baby's birth. In Cyprus, you must register the birth within 60 days. If one or both parents are not Cypriot, you'll also need to contact your home country's embassy or consulate to register the birth there. Lastly, try to embrace the local culture and traditions. Having a baby in a foreign country can be a wonderful opportunity to learn about and participate in local customs related to pregnancy and childbirth," explained one expat living in Larnaca, Cyprus.
