What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Paphos?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Paphos about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Cyprus. The country has both public and private healthcare, and as an expat, you may be eligible for free or subsidized healthcare if you are a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) holder. Secondly, you should find a good obstetrician or midwife who speaks your language. This will make your prenatal visits and the delivery process much easier. Thirdly, consider taking prenatal classes. These classes can help you prepare for childbirth and parenthood, and they can also be a great way to meet other expectant parents in Paphos. Fourthly, make sure you understand the maternity leave policies in Cyprus. If you are working, you may be entitled to maternity leave and benefits. Fifthly, if you plan to give birth in a hospital, visit the hospital beforehand to familiarize yourself with the facilities and procedures. Sixthly, ensure that you have all the necessary documents for your baby. This includes registering the birth and getting a birth certificate. Lastly, take advantage of the support networks available to you. This could be online forums for expat parents, local parenting groups, or even just friends and family. Having a baby in a foreign country can be challenging, but with the right support and preparation, it can also be a wonderful experience," remarked another expat in Paphos, Cyprus.
