What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Paralimni?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Paralimni about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Cyprus. The country has both public and private healthcare, and as an expat, you may have access to both. However, private healthcare is recommended for more personalized and immediate care. Ensure that you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity costs. Some insurance companies may require a waiting period before the coverage can be used for maternity care, so plan ahead. Find a good obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN) who you feel comfortable with. You can ask for recommendations from other expats or locals. It's also important that the OB-GYN can communicate effectively in a language you understand. Consider hiring a doula or midwife for additional support during pregnancy and childbirth. They can provide emotional support, help with birth planning, and assist during labor and delivery. Take advantage of prenatal classes. They can help you prepare for childbirth and parenthood, and it's also a great way to meet other expectant parents in Paralimni. Research the local customs and practices around childbirth. This can help you understand what to expect and make informed decisions about your own birth plan. Ensure your passport and visa status are up to date, and understand the process for registering your baby's birth and getting a passport for them if you plan to travel outside Cyprus. Lastly, take care of your mental health. Moving to a new country and having a baby can be stressful, so don't hesitate to seek help if you're feeling overwhelmed. There are support groups and professional services available for expats in Cyprus," said another expat in Paralimni, Cyprus.
