What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Coral Coast?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Coral Coast about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Fiji. While the country has a number of public and private hospitals, the standard of care may not be the same as in your home country. Therefore, it's advisable to have a comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care and childbirth. Secondly, consider hiring a local doula or midwife who can guide you through the process and provide support during labor and delivery. They can also help you navigate the local healthcare system and communicate with medical staff. Thirdly, ensure you have all the necessary documents for your baby. This includes a birth certificate, which is essential for registering the birth with your home country's embassy or consulate and for obtaining a passport for your baby. Fourthly, be aware of the local customs and traditions related to childbirth. In Fiji, it's common for the extended family to be involved in the pregnancy and birth process. Respect these traditions and try to involve your local community as much as possible. Lastly, make sure you have a support network in place. This can be other expat families, local friends, or family members who can help you during the postpartum period. Having a baby in a foreign country can be challenging, but with the right support and preparation, it can also be a rewarding experience," explained one expat living in Coral Coast, Fiji.
