It's recommended to have comprehensive health insurance that covers medical evacuation. Fiji is a multicultural country with a mix of indigenous Fijian, Indo-Fijian, Asian and European communities. The culture is friendly and welcoming, but it's important to respect local customs and traditions. The country has a relatively slow pace of life, which can be a big adjustment for those used to a fast-paced urban lifestyle. Public transportation is available but can be unreliable, so many expats choose to buy or rent a car. Fiji has a high level of crime, including petty theft and home invasions, so it's important to take precautions to protect your property.
