What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Santander. They wrote...
"Expats in Santander often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as not everyone speaks English and the local dialect can be difficult to understand. The Spanish lifestyle, which includes late dinners and siestas, can also be a significant adjustment for those accustomed to different schedules. Additionally, some expats may struggle with the local customs and social norms, such as the importance of personal relationships in business dealings. The slower pace of life can also be a challenge for those used to a more fast-paced, efficiency-driven culture. Lastly, navigating the Spanish bureaucracy can be a daunting task for many expats, as it often involves a lot of paperwork and can be quite time-consuming," explained one expat living in Santander, Spain.
