What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Esteli. They wrote...

"Expats in Esteli often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Spanish is the primary language spoken and not everyone is fluent in English. The slower pace of life can also be a challenge for those accustomed to a faster, more structured lifestyle. Additionally, the concept of "Nica time," where punctuality is not highly valued, can be difficult for expats to adjust to. The lack of certain amenities and conveniences that they might be used to from their home countries can also be a challenge. Lastly, understanding and navigating the local bureaucracy for things like visas, permits, and other legal matters can be complex and frustrating," explained one expat living in Esteli, Nicaragua.
