What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Dominical. They wrote...
"Expats in Dominical often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Spanish is the primary language spoken and not everyone is fluent in English. The slower pace of life, known as "Tico time", can also be a challenge for those accustomed to a more fast-paced, punctual lifestyle. Additionally, the high humidity and heat can be difficult to adjust to, especially for those from cooler climates. The lack of certain amenities and conveniences that they might be used to from their home countries, such as certain foods or products, can also be a challenge. Lastly, understanding and navigating the local bureaucracy for things like visas, permits, and taxes can be complex and frustrating for expats," remarked another expat who made the move to Dominical, Costa Rica.
