What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Playa Flamingo. They wrote...

"Expats in Playa Flamingo often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as not everyone speaks English and it can be difficult to communicate without a basic understanding of Spanish. The slower pace of life, known as "Tico time", can also be a challenge for those used to a more fast-paced, punctual lifestyle. Additionally, the heat and humidity can be difficult to adjust to, especially for those from cooler climates. Some expats also find it challenging to navigate the local bureaucracy, which can be complex and time-consuming. Lastly, while Costa Rica is generally safe, petty crime can be an issue, and expats may need to take extra precautions to protect their belongings," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica.
