What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Livingston. They wrote...

"Expats in Livingston often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Spanish and Garifuna are the primary languages spoken and not everyone speaks English. The pace of life can also be a challenge, as it is significantly slower than what many expats are used to, which can lead to frustrations when trying to get things done. Additionally, the lack of certain amenities and services that they might be used to in their home countries, such as high-speed internet or a wide variety of grocery items, can be difficult to adjust to. Some expats also struggle with the local customs and social norms, which can be quite different from their own, leading to potential misunderstandings or cultural faux pas. Finally, while many locals are friendly and welcoming, expats can sometimes feel isolated or excluded, particularly if they struggle to integrate into the local community," said another expat in Livingston, Guatemala.
