"Playa del Carmen has seen an increase in crime, including violent crimes such as robbery, assault, and theft. Property crime, including burglary and vandalism, have also become more common. There have been reports of attempted kidnappings in the area and the beach can be an area of high risk, especially at night. Tourists should remain vigilant and take the usual security precautions to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime," remarked another expat who made the move to Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
