As a foreigner living in Helsinki, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?

Answer this Question

We asked expats in Helsinki if they have access to public healthcare in Helsinki. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...

"As a foreigner living in Helsinki, you will have access to public healthcare, provided you are a legal resident and have a valid residence permit. The Finnish public healthcare system is known for its high-quality services, well-trained medical professionals, and modern facilities. However, you might experience longer waiting times for non-urgent treatments compared to private healthcare. It is also important to note that public healthcare services are not entirely free, as there are nominal fees for appointments and treatments, but these fees are generally affordable. Additionally, if you are employed in Finland, you will be covered by the Finnish social security system, which further supports your access to public healthcare services," said another expat in Helsinki, Finland.
