What do I need to know before moving to Algeria?

Answer this Question

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Algeria, they said...

"Expats should be aware that Algeria is a predominantly Muslim country and that Islamic customs and laws are observed. It is important to be respectful of local customs and traditions. Expats should also be aware that the official language is Arabic, although French is widely spoken. It is advisable to learn some basic Arabic before moving to Algeria. Expats should also be aware that the cost of living in Algeria is relatively low, but that the country has a limited infrastructure and limited access to goods and services. Finally, expats should be aware that Algeria is a very conservative country and that public displays of affection are not tolerated," said another expat in Algeria.
