Recent visit point of view

Hi y'all, well we're back from our recent trip to explore the possibility of becoming Belizeans and it's still a possibility.
First, I apologize we didn't really get the chance to connect with anyone from the forum here, there simply wasn't enough time.
Thoughts about the areas we visited.
While I like the simple life of Dangriga and Hopkins area the missus felt like the area was too depressed for her taste. We both felt welcome, but also like an outsider and assume that would carry over into living there. I guess kinda of like someone who marries into the family you gotta be in there awhile before you're accepted. No problem with that at all and in fact that's a healthy way for a community to act. unfortunately at my age i might not live to be a truly accepted member.
Placencia was ok, but it reminded me of a resort beach town and I sense that it is headed the way of Ambergris. It would be a good place to buy now for investment, but its too touristy for me to live out the rest of my years. So, the search goes on.
As for the bugs, sure we were there in November/December, but honestly it wasn't any worse than living in rural Texas. Everyone we ran into was friendly and the slower lifestyle suites us just fine. The roads that people complain about are better than a lot of the roads here in the states! The country is beautiful and I could certainly get use to the "traffic".
In short if we can find a place that is close enough to the beach, but not in a resort or growing tourist area, but also somewhat modern we'll see y'all in the next couple of years.
Thanks for the hospitality.
