Working remotely

Hello! Nice to join you all virtually!

We are considering moving to Belize after the kids graduate from school in a few years. It has been our dream for a little while now.

I am thinking about working remotely (since I work on computers, it is not an issue for my company). My understanding is that I need to get a work permit since I will be working, though my salary will be in USD in the US.

First of all, is that correct? How difficult is it to get a work permit in those conditions? How long does it take? Do I need to start the process before I move?
